Smart classroom environments affect teacher-student interaction: Evidence from a behavioural sequence analysis

چکیده

This study investigated the effect of classroom settings on teacher-student interaction in higher education by comparing behavioural sequences smart classrooms (SCs) and traditional multimedia (TMCs). Twenty in-classroom teaching sessions were randomly selected from six universities South China, involving 1,043 students 23 teachers. Half taken SCs as experimental group, half TMCs control group. A behaviour coding schema was developed, a total 17,805 observable behaviours collected coded sequentially via review videos. Then, behavior pattern diagram set up to visualise lag sequential analysis results four themes, namely teacher-talk, teacher-action, student-talk student-action. Results show that compared TMCs, triggered significantly more self-initiated student actions student-driven teacher talk, while teacher-initiated talk decreased significantly, indicating students’ autonomy strengthened SC. Furthermore, teachers’ workload somewhat reduced, they obtained support with trying new pedagogies mobile terminals data-rich environment. These findings provide evidence validate increasing strengthening dominant position.

How Does a Classroom Interaction System Affect Student

We have developed and deployed a Web-based wireless classroom interaction system in a large-enrollment introductory physics lecture class that uses HP handheld computers (PDAs) to facilitate real-time two-way student interaction with the instructor. Our system is ahead of other “clicker” based systems that are primarily limited to multiple-choice responses. Our system allows for a variety of qu...

Teacher-Student Classroom Interactions: A Computational Approach

Teacher-student interactions are key to most school-taught lessons. We present a new approach to studying these interactions; this approach is based on a fine-grained data collection, using quantitative field observations (QFOs), which relies on a well-established theoretical framework. The data collected can be analyzed in various methods to address different types of research questions; we gi...

How Do Classroom Peers Affect Student Outcomes?: Evidence from a Natural Experiment in Beijing’s Middle Schools

Peer effects are among the most prominent considerations in debates on public policy. However, current empirical research has not reached a consensus on the existence and nature of peer effects because of the difficulty in isolating peer effects from other confounding influences and the simultaneity of peer interactions, also known as reflection problem. This paper exploits the special rule of ...
